The facilitators main task is to help the group increase effectiveness by improving its process and structure
Roger Schwarz
Facilitation is one of the most powerful, and most underestimated, leadership capabilities. It can be the difference between a meeting that produces real work and one that goes through the motions. But great facilitation is more than good organisation or keeping people on track. It's a craft that requires you to read what's happening beneath the surface, create the conditions for honest and productive conversation, and know when and how to intervene.
In organisations today, the ability to bring people together to solve complex problems, navigate difficult dynamics, and make progress on things that matter is a critical skill at every level of leadership. Yet most people are expected to facilitate without ever having been taught how.
This skillbuilder combines self-paced digital learning with a three-hour experiential workshop. It gives you the conceptual grounding first, then the space to practise, experiment, and reflect alongside others. You'll explore the dynamics that shape every group, discover how to create the conditions for real work, and build the confidence to read a room and respond with skill.
By the end of this skillbuilder, you will be able to:
Recognise the deeper dynamics at play in any group or facilitated space
Create the conditions that allow people to engage honestly and do meaningful work together
Manage tension productively — knowing when to turn up the heat and when to pull back
Design and facilitate sessions that work for people with different needs and perspectives
Observe, interpret, and intervene with greater confidence
